Her UmbrellaWritten by Brian McMahon Performed by Brian McMahon
I'm returning an umbrella
that she loaned me from her flat down to the crosstown bus And I'm swinging her umbrella thinking it won't rain again before the two of us Have this whole day down by the blue canal in the warmth of the summer sun As a gentle breeze rustles through the trees (Now won't that be nice) So I'm walking this umbrella while she's talking to some friend about the two of us And she couldn't wait to tell her that she hopes I feel the same although I looked nonplused when we met last night in a pouring rain and she asked me to come up Then said "hold your oats", handing me her Totes Now I hear my feet hitting the street I must be running 'cause my heart's a quicker beat And I hear a rumble and a crash The sky's gone darker to the rhythm of my splash Now I'm under her umbrella standing dripping at her doorway like a drowning rat And I cannot help but wonder if I'll never make my way beyond this welcome mat Just then the door opens wide, she says "Thanks, I see you brought it back But you better keep it 'cause you're gonna need it" Now I hear my feet hitting the street I must be running 'cause my heart's a quicker beat Back under the rumble and the crash And her umbrella, and her umbrella her umbrella, and her umbrella yeah her umbrella, her umbrella |
